The
‘Preserving The Past
Protecting The Future’ fundraising campaign is in
support of the Military Communications and Electronics Museum.
It is
being conducted under the auspices of The Military
Communications and Electronics Museum Foundation, a
“Friends of the museum” charitable corporation.
Since its inception in 1985,
the Foundations most significant
achievement was raising the $5.4M required to erect the new,
climate-controlled structure, to store and display the
continuously growing collection of military communications
artefacts and historical
archives. The new
facility, opened in 1996, is the only purpose-built museum of the
61 military museums in Canada.
It is recognized as a world-class museum and is the only
one of its kind in North America.
This ‘Preserving
The Past – Protecting The Future’ campaign has
three main objectives:
¨
It is primarily
intended to address the need to substantially increase the
Military Communications and Electronics Heritage Endowment Fund
established by the Foundation to earn investment income to sustain
museum operations
¨
The museum also
needs to expand its facilities to provide more room to store and
display a rapidly growing collection and to upgrade its
archival, research and
library facilities
¨
There is a need to
enhance the Museum’s education program which aims to ensure
that current and future generations, especially
young people, understand the important role played not only by
members of the Military Communications and Electronics community
during peace and war but also by their Industrial partners in
the vital sector of Information Technology.
In 2003, the Military Communications and
Electronics Branch
celebrated the Centenary of Military Communications in Canada.
The Museum through its’ motto, “The
Troops, The Times,
The Technology,” continues to showcase the Canadian
heritage of military communications and the development of
Information Technology.
The Foundation of the Military C&E Museum needs
to provide financial sustainment of this commemoration of the
devotion, sacrifices and ingenuity of so many people.
We wish that future generations will be able to continue to
learn and understand the vital role played by Military Communicators
in the development of our nation.
By making a contribution, you will be helping to preserve a
proud military history, one that includes the research and
development efforts of the Canadian Information Technology industry.
