Protection of your personal information is one of our highest priorities. We respect your right to personal privacy and we are committed to full compliance with both Federal and Provincial Privacy Legislation.
This statement is intended to describe what types of identifiable information about our donors we collect and use, why we do so, and whether and to whom we disclose it. This statement is also meant to describe how you can contact our Privacy Officer with any inquiries or complaints, or to exercise your rights under the Privacy Laws, including your right to access and correct your personal information.
Why do we collect personal information?
When you first donate to The
Military Communications and Electronics Museum Foundation, we normally
acquire some personal information. Common purposes for which we
collect your personal information are to:
- Enable us to issue a Tax receipt;
- Protect us both against error or fraud;
- Allow us to keep you informed in regard to other Foundation and Museum
events; and
- Enable us to recognize you as a donor in the museum list of donors (name only) and to place your name on the donor wall when specified donation levels are attained, unless specified by you that you do not wish to be publicly recognized.
What personal information do we collect? Personal information is
information that identifies you as an individual "Friend of The
Museum " and relates specifically to you. Depending on the purpose
for which we need to collect it, we may ask for personal information
including:
- Basic information such as your name, address, telephone, fax numbers
and email address;
- Visa or Master Card number and expiration date for those who wish to
donate via this means on a regular basis; and
- Corporation, Company, Foundation etc, name for reasons stated in why
paragraph above.
Who do we disclose your personal information to? The names of all individuals, Associations, Corporations, Companies, Foundations and other donors will be made available to the Communications and Electronics Branch Office for publication in the Branch Newsletter for recognition. No other personal information shall be given. With permission of the donor/donors special recognition via other media such as television, radio and newspapers may be arranged.
How do we protect your personal information? In order to protect your
personal information and right to privacy we will:
- Not collect, use or disclose your personal information for any purpose
other than those that we identified to you;
- Keep your personal information only for as long as we need it to
fulfill the stated purpose or as required by law;
- Maintain your personal information in as accurate, complete and
up-to-date a form as possible;
- Safeguard your personal information to the best of our ability;
- Respond to any request you make to access or correct the personal
information we hold about you; and,
- Obtain the appropriate consent from you for the collection, use or
disclosure of your personal information.
Consent. We may obtain your express consent by one of the following
methods:
- We might ask for your express consent in writing, for example in a
signed consent or application form; or
- We may ask for your express consent in person or over the telephone.
You can control how we handle your personal information. We want you to know that you do have choices in this matter. You could refuse to allow us to obtain and use your personal information for the purposes stated or you could withdraw a previously given consent at any time. As noted above, you can access and correct your personal information at any time.
