Re: Deferment of Gap Filler Programme

Dear Sir:

Receipt is acknowledged of your letter of 8 August 1962, and the enclosed status reports and your instructions to the Branch Managers.

In reply to the points mentioned in your letter, we wish to advise you as follows:

  1. Storage of Diesel Alternator Sets and Associated Equipment - Storage facilities have been requested at a centrally located RCAF Station and as soon as the decision has been received, you will be advised. In the meantime, the diesel alternator sets shipped to Tobermory, Timmins and Nicolet will have to remain at the sites. The diesel alternator set shipped to St Joseph has been diverted to No 5 Supply Depot, Moncton.

  2. Storage of Steelox Components and Other Construction Materials and Equipment - Storage facilities cannot be requested until lists of materials and equipment have been received for each site. These lists should also indicate where the materials etc are located on the jobs. As suggested in your letter, arrangements will be made by telephone with your office, but it should be appreciated that we cannot ship a carload of materials etc without having some idea of what is included, weight and storage area required. Materials enroute to the sites can be redirected if we are advised of the details on the bill of materials.

  3. Arrangements are to be made with our CCE/Inspectors for interim DCL 51 take-overs. These inspections should be made on co-ordinated trips when all sites under each Branch Office are visited. Details of work completed, work deferred, materials onsite for storage or shipped out for storage shall be recorded.

Yours truly,

(CEF Underwood)
