Status of Construction
Gap Filler Radar Stations, Various

The status of construction at the various Gap Filler Radar Stations is listed on the attached Appendices "A", "B", "C" and "D". Until detailed reports are received for individual stations, it is impossible to provide the information requested on a complete site-by-site basis. The stations have been grouped according to their approximate overall average but individual percentages for line items will vary. The time required to complete the construction is also an approximate number of months after approval of the DND-8 to DCL. When an individual site is completed will depend on how quickly DCL renegotiates an individual contract and how quickly a contractor resumes construction.

The problems, which we will be confronted with as the result of the deferment of the programme, are as follows:

  1. Completion of outstanding work

  2. Preparation of plans and specifications covering outstanding work.

  3. Renegotiation or tender call for small or large contracts to complete the construction.

  4. Repair of damage or deterioration to access road, building site, buildings and equipment, which may involve additional field survey and design work by our consulting engineers.

  5. Return of materials to sites, which are being stored at RCAF stations.
