Completion of Construction by CEU
Gap Filler Radar Stations, Various

Our S10-136-80/5 (DCEP) TD 2269 of 25 Sep 62 requested a decision as to whether CEU might be able to complete the outstanding work at the ten (10) Gap Filler Radar Stations, which are about 95% complete. The number of sites has now been reduced to six (6) in this category, including the following:

Work was terminated in Jul 62 on these sites and although ADC and certain prime radar stations have assumed responsibility for care and custody, the fact that the buildings and equipment within them will have been unused for two (2) years by Jul 64, it is considered that there will have to be a thorough check and test of all work done previously, in addition to the items still outstanding. All told, it is difficult to tell at this time whether this will amount to a minor or major amount of work.

The following items would be common to all stations:

1. Check foundations, floor slabs, steelox components, passageway, metal work, insulation, floor tiles and painting and correct deficiencies.

2. Check and test electrical, mechanical, plumbing, fire alarm and grounding systems and correct deficiencies.

3. Check and test fuel oil system and rain water system and correct deficiencies.

4. Check and update present construction with latest revisions to standard drawings and specifications.

5. Reactivate buildings and equipment by removing temporary plywood covers and reconnecting piping or eavestrough,etc

The following items are applicable to individual stations:

1. Algonquin Park - Nil

2. Belleterre -
   • Hoods over gable louvres
   • Concrete supports for fuel oil piping (now wood) and anchoring pipe line
   • Floor tile
   • Floor trench for APU panel
   • Touch up painting

3. Elliot Lake -
   • Floor tile
   • Hoods over gable louvres
   • Wire motors and relays for louvres
   • Wire Dwyer unit and hot water tank
   • Change thermostats on exhaust fans and louvres from T42B to TA42B.

4. Formosa - Security Fencing

5. Timmins - Nil

6. Tobermory -
   • Replace electrical receptacles
   • Change louvre controls from M204A to M905J.

The following items will be done by others:

1. Install diesel alternator set and associated equipment, including connection to commercial power sub-station, by Sheridan Equipment Ltd.

2. Commercial power line and sub-station by power company

3. Repair and maintenance of access road by ADC and prime radar station.
