Mr AA Speer,
Regional Manager, Real Estate,
Department of Transport,
Room 446 - 1 Front Street West
TORONTO 1, Ontario

Dear Sir:

Re: Your Reference GAP 23E

We have for acknowledgement your letter of July 14th relative to the Gap Filler Radar Station site near Timmins. The plans enclosed with your letter have been examined and we wish to report that the site proper for the Radar Station being in Godfrey Township is outside our timber concession area. The bulk of the road right-of-way however, being in Jamieson Township is within our area.

We are willing to consent to your request to prepare the road right-of-way through our concession areas in Jamieson Township upon receipt of your Department's written acceptance of our usual conditions for such operations, namely:

  1. to reimburse Abitibi for all charges levied on Abitibi by the Ontario Government in respect to the Department's timber cutting operations, inclusive of Stumpage and Scaling charges.

  2. to pay Abitibi for all charges levied on Abitibi by the Ontario Government on the timber cut in the said operation.

  3. the Department will obtain in its name from the Ontario Government all requisite authorization for its timber cutting operations, inclusive of "Work Permits" and "Cutting Permits".

If the foregoing arrangements are satisfactory we suggest you reply to us referring to this letter and confirming your acceptance of the conditions outlined. We will then be in a position to advise the local Department of Lands and Forests' District Forester that all arrangements between your Department and this Company relative to the Radar Station road have been completed. A copy of our conditions as agreed to will also be supplied to the District Forester at that time.

Our Mr Robinson is examining the road location at this moment. We will ask him to write to you separately next week giving an idea as to the volume of merchantable timber, if any, which will be encountered on your proposed road location.
