Care and Custody

Gap Filler Radar Stations

  1. Further to your S10-136-80/5 (DCEM) of 13 Mar 1963 to ADC regarding care and custody of Gap Filler Radar Stations where buildings have been erected, it is requested that ADC be asked to assume responsibility for care and custody of the radar towers which have been erected.

This additional responsibility will add the following stations to the previous list:

    Bridgetown

    B40-1-1001-1

    Lucknow

    L37-1-1001-1

    Sparta

    S111-1-1001-1

No security fencing has been erected at the following sites where towers have been erected:

    Atikokan

Joint radar & forestry tower is being used by forestry personnel

    Bridgetown

    Site on private land

    Chapleau

    Site on crown land

    Formosa

    Site on farm land

    Lucknow

    Site on farm land

    Sparta

    Site on farm land

    Westport

    Site on private land

It is requested that ADC be asked to barricade the stairs to the a/n towers (except at Atikokan) in order to prevent legal action caused by injury to persons climbing the towers. It is considered that the tower at Westport is extremely dangerous as it is only 5 miles from the summer resort area and has already been climbed by a large number of people, including children.

It is also requested that all sites visited by ADC be well posted with DND No Trespassing Signs.
