Gentlemen:

Re: Field Survey Requirements - Marten River and Nipigon Sites.

This will acknowledge your letter of November 17th, file 26-10-7, concerning surveys you propose to carry out in the Townships of Sisk and Hele for selection of sites for certain projects.

This Company holds timber licences covering the two Townships. The licenses grant the exclusive right in all timber standing on the areas, subject to payment of stumpage. Thus the Company is held responsible for payment of stumpage of every tree felled, regardless of who may fell it.

Under these circumstances, we require any party who may fell trees in the course of land clearing or similar operations to make prior arrangements with us for payment of the stumpage for which we are liable, as well as of a royalty to compensate for costs of carrying the area before and after cutting, and of any costs incurred in scaling said timber.

We have no objection to your entering on these lands for purposes of field survey, but in the event that any timber is to be felled, we expect you to make the arrangements outlined above in respect of a specific area.
