Dear Sir:

Re: Field Surveys - Gap Filler Stations -
Ontario - Your Ref: S10-136-80/5 SECRET (CCE/Prop)

This is further to our letter of June 10th enclosing a number of Work Permits permitting your Department to carry out field surveys and soil tests in the Province of Ontario.

We are enclosing another Work Permit covering the Griffin (Batchawana) Lake area and you will note that the Department of Lands and Forests request that your Consulting Engineers get in touch with Mr JW Lockwood, District Forester, when they are ready to commence the survey.

In connection with your requirements in the Maritimes, we have been advised by the Province of Nova Scotia that the Alder River Site is on privately-owned land. This is the only site in Nova Scotia thought to be on Provincial Crown land. The Province has assured us that if you have any other requirements that involve Crown lands, they will be made available to you.

We are expecting to hear from the Provinces of Quebec and New Brunswick in the very near future.

Yours truly,

JR Baldwin,
Deputy Minister

The Deputy Minister,
Department of National Defence,
Ottawa, Ontario.
