DEPUTY MINISTER OF TRANSPORT
OTTAWA, CANADA

May 11th, 1961.

Dear Sir:

Re: Proposed Gap Filler Sites -
Eastern Canada - Your File:
S10-136-80/5 Vol 2 (CCE/Prop)

Further to our letter of May 8th, we have been advised by the District Forester of the Department of Lands and Forests that the Permission required in connection with Gowganda, Ontario, will be granted subject to the Department making formal application for a Work Permit.

The required Application is enclosed for completion is found satisfactory. Will you please arrange to have it returned for further handling by this Department.

Also enclosed is Permission to Enter Form obtained from Mr H Kiers, owner of the property affected by your Gap Filler Site at Sparta, Ontario.

In discussing land values with this owner he indicated that his asking price for the parcel including the right-of-way thereto, comprising approximately 3 acres, would be $3,000.00. However, our Land Agent feels that further negotiations with this owner will result in this figure being somewhat reduced. We might point out that Mr Kiers would prefer to see the access road established along the westerly limits of his property and not in the location suggested by your Department. This matter was discussed with your contracting engineer who seem to agree with Mr Kiers' request.

Yours truly,

JR Baldwin,
Deputy Minister.

The Deputy Minister,
Department of National Defence,
Ottawa, Ontario.
