Dear Sir:

Re: Your file 10-36-80/5 (JDPG)

I have for acknowledgement your letter of February 8th, 1960, requesting information on the general location of all logging roads, in the area covered by the National Topographic Sheets numbers 42 and 52, to assist you in planning of air defence installations. Enclosed herewith are copies of our map numbers 24A, 23A, and 24B, on which are marked, the approximate location of the existing and contemplated, public and private roads. These maps are spare copies we had on file, which you may retain for your own records. They cover the area you are interested in, north of latitude 48º from the Quebec to Manitoba borders.

The road information added to these maps, may not be right up to date. We believe they are fairly reliable for all areas excepting our Kenora administrative District and possibly the western part of the Port Arthur administrative District. To be sure that you have the latet available information, if that is necessary, I would suggest that you have these maps, or copies, marked up as at present, and sent to our Regional Foresters, asking them to have the maps brought up to date.

The Regional Foresters for the areas you are interested in, are located as follows:

Northern Region - Mr RH Hambly - Cochrane
Mid-Western Region - Mr RS Hyslop - Port Arthur
Western Region - Mr R Boultbee - Fort Frances

For the area within our Central Region, I would suggest you refer it to the Regional Director, Mr K Acheson, in Sudbury as a Regional Forester, for this region has not been designated.

To assist and show you the areas covered by our various administrative districts and regions, so that you may mark the maps accordingly, I am enclosing a print of our administrative district map.

Yours truly

for: FW Beatty,
Surveyor General
