Re: US Abandonment of Six Gap Filler Radars

I spoke to Mr GB Lindsay of National Revenue and Mr MacKinnon of Crown Assets Disposal on the Newfoundland interest in the generators at the six gap filler radar sites which have been abandoned by the US (per the exchange of notes April 1 and May 4, 1961).

Mr Lindsay remarked that he thought little or no trouble would be experienced if the surplus declarations were marked or clearly identified as covering items which were orginally US property on which duty was not paid when it was brought into Canada. This should enable CADC and National Revenue to handle the duty factor on the basis of CADC remitting to National Revenue 15% of the price received for the equipment.

The suggestion is that you call Mr MacKinnon of CADC to work out an appropriate form of identifying this particular type of surplus declaration.
