Design Criteria - Radar Bldg & Power Bldg
Gap Filler Radar Stations - General

An ad hoc meeting was held in CCE Conference Room on 15 Nov 60 at 1400 hours for the purpose of discussing design criteria for the Radar Building and Power Building at the Gap Filler Radar Stations.

This meeting was attended by the following personnel:

The Radar building will be 28' x 48' in size and will be designed for an average floor loading of 150 lbs/sq ft with a maximum of 250 lbs/sq ft.

The maximum power load for radar equipment will be 62 KVA, and may be decreased with new equipment.

The heat dissipated by the radar equipment will be 194,000 BTU/hr.

The location and type of accommodation was to be determined jointly by ATSC and CCE and was subsequently agreed to as follows: double bunks for 4 men, combined sink, cupboard and stove unit, chemical toilet, rainwater storage tank below floor and small pressure tank; to be located at end of Radar building with only the chemical toilet closed off - in small ventilated room.

The diesel generators would be supplied by the RCAF.

The following questions could not be settled at the meeting and were referred to ATSC for decision:

  1. Permissable reduction of elevation of site to facilitate siting of tower and buildings.

  2. Requirement for 1, 2, or 3 diesel generators depending on availability of commercial power.

  3. Requirement for complete control and signal system as designed by USAF.

It is requested that the CCE Project Officer (Eng-5-5) be advised of the decision for the questions listed in para 8 above.
