Re: Field Survey, Soil Investigations and
Engineering Recommendations
Gap Filler Radar Stations, S Ontario.

Dear Sirs:

Following the meeting in Ottawa of the consultants being employed on the Gap Filler Radar Stations on 7 Jul 59, during which a revised statement of services dated 6 Jul 59 was discussed in detail, it has been decided to further reduce the requirements at this time in order to remain within the funds authorized for this preliminary phase of the work.

It is requested that the revised statement of services dated 6 Jul 59 be cancelled and replaced by the attached revised statement of services dated 10 Jul 59. Your attention is requested to the following revised paragraphs:

6 (d) The field work will be confined to visual observations and local inquiries, with recommendations for possible further investigations.

9 This paragraph has been reworded to emphasize the submission of the review of any outstanding difficulties anticipated.

10 (f) the words "the most convenient" has been used to indicate that the survey line does not have to be the closest to the site.

10 (g) The cost of bringing up a geodetic elevation has been deleted and National Topographic Maps will be used instead.

11 The use of the words first, second and third order has been deleted and replaced by verbal descriptions.

12 The soil investigation will be confined to visual observations and recommendations for possible future drilling.

13 The field survey plans have been divided into two sections, those to be prepared in this contract and those to be prepared in a subsequent contract. Only one plan plus the sketches will be required for each site at this time, but all field information should be contained in the field books for the preparation of the balance of the plans at a later date.

It is further requested that the receipt of this revised statement of services dated 10 Jul 59 be acknowledged to this office and that a further revised estimate of consulting services be submitted to Defence Construction (1951) Limited.

Yours truly,

(JW Griffith)
Group Captain,
for Chief of the Air Staff
