Dear Sir:

Re: Building Keys
Gap Filler Radar Stations, Various

A summary of the building keys received from your office or the Regional Offices for the various Gap Filler Radar Stations is attached.

Although there were twenty-five contracts awarded, keys have been received for only seventeen sites where the buildings have been erected. The remaining locksets and keys are in storage at various locations with the Steelox components.

In the first four shipments Armco Drainage and Metal Products Ltd issued four keys per site numbered CG ?-1, 2, 3 & 4 and requested the general contractor through DCL to provide a duplicate set per site numbered C4D-1, 2, 3 & 4 for Formosa as example. For the remaining shipments Armco retained one of the original keys (usually CG ?-1) in order to issue a duplicate set per site numbered in accordance with our new site numbers.

It has been requested previousy that all keys be turned in by the general contractors regardless of the number they had received.

Although some of the keys are incorrectly numbered, nevertheless they can be identified by either series as belonging to a Gap Filler Radar Station.

In five cases all of the original keys are missing. In five other cases some of the original keys are missing. It is not a question of sending in four matching keys per site but the three or four original keys stamped with the site number.

In the case of Scotch Settlement, three different set of keys have been received from your office, two of which we know are wrong but do not know where the matching locksets are. Any explanation would be appreciated.

Two other sets of keys (Yale 1A116 and 122) have been received which cannot be identified. The solution to this problem will have to await resumption of construction, when all locksets and keys will be checked.

If one of your Regional Offices or general contractors has retained one of the original keys for a specific purpose, it will be acceptable if they report the Yale and RCAF numbers on the keys now and return them when their purpose is accomplished.

Yours truly,

(SE Martin)
