Dear Sir:

Re: Gap Filler Radar Stations, Lakehead Area

You previously asked if we would forward our estimated costs to move the materials from the various Lakehead sites to Atikokan.

Here is our Area Engineer's estimate to move the materials to Atikokan:

  1. Electrical and mechanical materials for Marathon Gap Filler, presently stored with Armstrong Van and Storage Limited in Port Arthur - $150.00

  2. Steelox building components, culverts and reinforcing steel, presently stored in town of Nipigon and along road allowance of the access road - $700.00

(This estimate does not include moving of bridge timbers, various materials for foundations stored at the top of the hill and some culverts as they are in locations not accessible to standard vehicular traffic. In our opinion, moving these materials by tracked vehicles would be very difficult and its cost would be prohibitive.)

  3. Fencing materials, culverts, and reinforcing steel, presently stored in Manitouwadge - $340.00

  4. Materials presently stored by Lakehead Freightways Limited in Marathon - $2,850.00

(Some of these materials are very bulky and heavy. for example, 2,000 gal tanks, steel plates for 50,000 gal tanks and structural steel beams. Therefore, I feel that moving these materials to Atikokan would not be the best solution, in particular as there is no suitable place in the Atikokan site to store them properly.

Yours very truly
