Re: Siting Instruction Plans
Gap Filler Radar Stations
E Quebec

Dear Sirs:

In reply to your letter of 26 November 1959, regarding the preparation of siting instruction plans for the Gap Filler Radar Stations in E Quebec, we wish to advise you as follows:

  1. The 10" latitude and 20" longitude lines shall always be square with the borders of the drawings, and thereby establish the N point for the plan. The reference line (ie the line between the two permanent survey monuments) shall be plotted with reference to the N point on the plan, giving its true bearing and distance. The grid lines shall be plotted as laid out in the field with reference to the permanent survey monuments. Therefore, all three sets of lines may be at an acute angle to each other on your drawings as shown on the attached sketch.

  2. It is now decided that spot levels shall not be shown within the 400 foot square on the siting instruction plans but shall be shown on the radial lines, existing roads, ditches, gulleys and watercourses, gravel pits and other man-made obstructions. The grid lines shall be lettered or numbered as identified in the field book and one copy of the field notes pertaining to this phase of the work shall be submitted with the three copies of the Field Survey Report.

  3. The outline of the building(s) and tower shall not be shown on any drawing at this time. The consultant may indicate his recommendations for the siting of the tower and building(s) by placing a RED "X" on the plan. Where the radar and power buildings are going to be constructed on two sites, which cannot be shown on the siting instruction plan, the consultant shall prepare a free hand sketch on any convenient scale to show the relationship between the two sites, the access road, the bulldozer road and walking trail.

  4. The proposed route of the access road shall be shown on a sepia of the original drawing and it shall be prints of this sepia which shall be included in the Field Survey Report.

Yours truly,
