Re: Commercial Power Supply
Gap Filler Radar Stations

Dear Sirs:

The following information is being forwarded in answer to enquiries as to the commercial power supply required at the various Gap Filler Radar Stations.

  1. The average power demand will be 40 KVA. This load will be continuous twenty four hours per day all year round.

  2. The summer peak demand will be 65 KVA, when test equipment, exhaust fans or pumps are operating.

  3. The winter peak demand will be 105 KVA, when test equipment, electric heaters or pumps are operating.

  4. The transformer capacity is up to the power company but will probably be 3 x 37 1/2 KVA.

  5. The specification for the purchase of the diesel generators stipulates that the set shall start automatically on failure of any phase of the primary power and take over the load within 15 seconds and shall remain in operation during the outage and for 15 minutes after the resumption of normal power supply.

  6. A grounding system is being installed at the building for the radar equipment but it is desired that the power company not connect to it unless under extenuating circumstances and only with AFHQ approval.

  7. The service entrance requirements will be as shown on Drawing No S-22-1049-1. It is requested that Location "C" and "C-1" for the transformer structure be avoided as it will foul the double door.

Yours truly,

(JW Griffith)
Group Captain
for Chief of the Air Staff.
