Re: Gap Filler Stations (6), Diaz,
Perigny, Houdet, Asselin, Languedoc
and Castelnau Townships;
Your file: Q-1174-8, -9, -10, -11, -12, -13

Dear Sir:

We apologize for the delay in replying to your letter of April 20 last. You ask, for the benefit of the Department of National Defence, for permission to enter certain Crown lands at points capable of being converted into Gap Filler Stations, for the purpose of making certain studies of the subsoil, and, if appropriate, proceeding with a preliminary survey to demarcate such emplacements.

The documentation attached to your letter relates to the 6 stations which yu have located at the following points:

  1. "Tour Beaver" Station, Diaz Township, forestry concession of Canadian Internationa Paper Company, Sun Life Building, Montreal;

  2. "L'Ange St Jean", Perigny Township, forestry concession of Mr Joseph Houde, Petit Saguenay, Chicoutimi County;

  3. "L'Ascension", Castelnau Township, Mont Tremblant Park, forestry concession of Canadian International Paper Company;

  4. "Lac Nishkotea", in the centre of the proposed Range I, Houdet Township, forestry concession of Moose Lake Timber Ltd, PO Box 759, Maniwaki, Gatineau County;

  5. "Squatteck", Range I, Asselin Township, forestry concession of Fraser Companies Ltd, Edmunston, N Brunswick;

  6. "Taschereau", part of Lot 44, Range I, Languedoc Township, in the Township reserve.

We have no objections to the execution of the proposed preliminary works if you reach agreement with the other parties concerned, where appropriate, regarding the damage which these stations may cause as well as woodcutting rights for the trees you will necessarily have to cut in order to construct buildings, and also for fire-prevention clearings around those buildings in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Department of Lands and Forests, particularly for the payment of woodcutting rights and for the protection of the forests against fire.

Concerning the locations within the Mont Tremblant Park, we are informing the Department of Game and Fisheries of your project by copy of this letter. The reservation of this site, when such becomes necessary, is subject to the agreement of the Minister of Game and Fisheries with whom we will come to some agreement if there is a need for special provisions to be incorporated in the draft Order in Council, a little later.

Cutting permits will be issued upon request, if necessary, by our Forestry Service, for the Ascension and Taschereau Stations. You will have to reach agreement with the Forestry concessionaries for the remaining four.

When these sites have been definitely located and surveyed, we will then be in a position, upon production of plans and technical descriptions, to ask the Lieutenant-Governor in Council for the reservation of these lands in favour of the Federal Government for the afore-stated purposes.

Yours truly,

J Edouard Guay, For. Eng.
Deputy Minster
