Deputy Minister,
Department of Transport

Dear Sir:

Re: Gap Filler Radar Stations - Ontario
Removal and Replacing of Forestry Towers
Your file: 26-10-7 (RE)

Would you please refer to my letter of 25 August, 1961, concerning the replacement of the present fire lookout towers at six Gap Filler sites in Ontario

The question of the removal and replacing of these towers was discussed in Toronto in October of last year by officials of the Ontario Department of Lands and Forests, your regional real estate division and this department, at which time it was agreed that Lands and Forests would assume responsibility for the removal of their towers at our expense. It was further decided that if we abandon a site on which a joint radar and forestry tower has been erected DND would have the right to either turn the tower over to Lands and Forests or pay for the re-erection of that department's original tower. Mr Mackey who was the senior Ontario official with whom the question was discussed, undertook to let us have a letter confirming that this arrangement was satisfactory. If the letter in question has not been received by your Mr Speer, it is recommended that he take the matter up with Mr Mackay with a view to obtaining provincial acceptance of the proposal.

Yours sincerely,

(EB Armstrong)
Deputy Minister
