MEMORANDUM

ADM/C&P

Field Surveys and Soil Investigations
Proposed Gap Filler Radar Stations.

A total of 21 relocated Gap Filler Sites have been operationally approved by the RCAF and USAF teams responsible for this project. Information in respect of these sites has been collated by our engineers who request that DOT obtain permission of the owners for the carrying out of field surveys and soil investigations.

The consultants employed by the department are to carry out this field work as soon as Defence Construction (1951) Limited issue the change order to the present contracts. For that reason DOT Head Office has been asked to have its agents inform our consulting engineers, who are listed on the data sheets, as soon as the required "permissions" have been obtained; an information copy of the letter is to be sent to this department through Transport channels.

Because of the large number of sites being grouped together in the present request to DOT a security classification of "Secret" has been used, with an explanatory note in the attached draft letter to the effect that negotiations and correspondence in respect of the individual sites may be treated as "Unclassified".

If you concur, it is recommended that the letter be signed and forwarded to Transport, please.
