Re: Forestry Tower near Belleterre, PQ

Dear Sir;

With reference to your letter of February 3rd regarding the replacement of our fire observation tower near Belleterre by joint purpose tower, we agree that the facilities offered us for fire observation is satisfactory to this Association provided the equipment to be installed by your service will not interfere with our FM radio communication on the 40.1 Mcs frequency and that the tower height be 100 ft.

As the construction of the joint tower will probably be undertaken during the fire season, arrangements should be made that our tower remain in operation as long as possible and that the 100 foot joint tower be erected as soon as our tower is dismantled in order to reduce the period the area will not be under observation for fires to a minimum.

We would also like a clause in any agreement that should the site be abandoned by the Department, that either the tower become the property of this Association or that the Association be recompensed for the cost of moving and erecting a replacement tower.

Due to the cabin to be provided for fire observation being much larger than that of our present tower it will very likely be necessary to place the observers table on a platform 6" to 1' above the floor to provide and equal view of areas near the tower from the table in the centre of the cabin.

As the erection of a tower for your installation would certainly seriously interfere with our view from our present tower, unless the joint purpose tower be provided, we would object to the installation if the joint purpose cannot be provided.

The provision of a road to the tower site and the offer to provide electricity will certainly be to our advantage.

Yours truly,

E H Gunter (?)
Manager.
