Permission to Enter for Field Survey
Gap Filler Radar Station London Relocated, Ont.

With reference to a/n letter and memo, the following information is submitted:

  1. The permissable area in which this station could be located was very restricted due to high concentration of commercial microwave installations. The area comprised a triangle with sides approximately three miles long.

  2. Due to the generally low relief throughout the whole of SW Ontario, it was essential to locate the actual highest point within the above mentioned triangle. The radar coverage from even this highest point is less than that desired and the lowering of the tower on another location would make the coverage worse.

  3. When the option on this site is received, and the land cost is known, it can them be determined whether it would be more economical to build a higher tower on a lower less expensive location.

MEMORANDUM

10 Feb 60

DEngC/Eng-5

Proposed Gap Filler Site-
London (Relocated), Ontario

In the letter immediately hereunder DOT points out that the proposed site for the Gap Filler Station known as London (Relocated) may be more expensive than surrounding farm land as the owner feels the sand, which makes up the area in which we are interested, has considerable value in view of highway construction in the vicinity of his property.

May we be advised, please, whether any additional or alternative instructions are to be passed to DOT as a result of this information.
