Deputy Minister
Department of Transport
Ottawa, Ontario

Dear Sir:

Re: Gap Filler Stations
Tobermory Site, Ontario

Please refer to your letter of 10 September, 1959, file 26-10-7, concerning the Gap Filler Site at Tobermory, Ontario

The firm land requirements at this location cannot be determined until the field survey plans have been received from our consultants (possibly by the end of this month). The preliminary siting reports, in most cases, indicated a specific site for the building and tower but the consultants have been instructed to survey an area 400' square centered on the highest point plus 500' radials from the high point to determine tree clearances. The final siting of the building and tower will only be made after completion of the survey and will take into consideration all pertinent facts, such as preferred location, practical location, boundary lines, use of land and presence of buildings.

Complete information on our firm land requirements at Tobermory will be forwarded to your office as soon as it becomes available. It has been noted that we have until the end of February next year to accept the option form Clarence O and Mary G Spears.

Your letter of 10 September was given a classification of "secret"; it has been determined that correspondence pertaining to only one site may be forwarded "unclassified". In this regard, I consider that it may be preferable if all correspondence from now on deal with individual sites, except for correspondence with the Province which naturally will deal with all sites within that Province.

Yours sincerely,

for Deputy Minister
