Re: Site Survey Report
Gap Filler Radar Station Tobermory Ont

Dear Sirs:

Recipt is acknowledged of your letter of 27 November 1959 and the enclosed three copies of the Site Survey Report for Tobermory

The following comments are forwarded for your guidance in preparing the remainder of the reports:

  1. All reports should be dated and signed by a senior official of the firm

  2. Base line and grid lines should be identified on the drawing as in the field notes.

  3. Ditches and road allowance lines should be shown on the drawing. If fence and road allowance coincide, symbol legend should indicate this fact.

  4. Although the report states that the site is cleared (except for the short access road), the purpose of the radial lines is to determine the ground elevations and the height of trees within a 500 foot radius. The upper left hand and upper right hand corners of the drawing do not clearly indicate the extent of the wooded areas. The trees should be described by type and height.

  5. The radial lines were intended to be 500 feet long from the centre of the site, not from the outside of the 400 foot square, however, do not delete any field information you have obtained.

  6. Assign your Drawing Number to each plan as well as your Job No.

  7. The outline of the building(s), and tower shall not be shown on any drawing at this time, as has been the case for this site, however, the consultant may indicate his recommendations for the siting of the tower and building(s) by placing a red "X" on the plan. When the radar and power buildings are going to be constructed on two sites, which cannot be shown on the siting instruction plan, the consultant shall prepare a free hand sketch on any convenient scale to show the relationship between the two sites, the access road, the bulldozer road and walking trail.

  8. The proposed route of the access road shall be shown on a sepia of the original drawing and it shall be prints of this sepia which shall be included in the report.

  9. All reports should contain a verbal description of Permanent Survey Monuments, Secondary Survey Monuments and Witness Posts without reference to AFHQ drawings or sketches. The method of construction, including materials and equipment should also be described.

Yours truly,
