Land Acquisition
Gap Filler Radar Station Tobermory, Ont

Further to our 10-T52 (DCEP) of 13 Mar 61 and 23 May 61, it is requested that the following revisions be made to our requests for land acquisition at Tobermory.

On Lot 46, Con 1, West of Bury Road, Township of St Edmunds, County of Bruce, the property owned by Angus S and Ernest H Ralph, our requirement will remain the same size in area (ie 230 ft x 270 ft) as requested in our 10-T52 (DCEP) of 13 Mar 61, but the southerly limit will now be 240 ft approximately instead of 220 ft northerly from the northerly limit of the Warner Bay Road.

On Lot 46, Con 2 West of Bury Road, the property owned by CO Speers, our requirement will now be 70 ft x 270 ft in order to relocate our buildings and tower away from the gravel pit, which had been extended about 30 ft beyond its original limit.

Our contractor will relocate the existing farm fence between Con 1 and Con 2 across our property.

Eight prints of Drawing No T52-1-1000-1 Rev 3 are enclosed.

Property for Gap Filler Radar Site-
Tobermory, Ontario

In the memorandum at second folio hereunder the Gap Filler project engineer has set out certain revisions in respect of the property to be acquired for the Gap Filler Site at Tobermory, Ontario

The existence of a gravel pit immediately adjacent tot he property we wish to purchase has raised a number of problems in that the owners of the land were continuing to sell gravel until the department accepted an option covering the area required for the defence installation (see letter at flagged folio hereunder). Our buildings and tower for the site have had to be relocated away from the pit which had been extended 30' beyond its original limit.

In the attached draft letter Transport is informed of the revisions and requested to have its agents reopen negotiations to acquire the new parcel which encompasses land in Lot 46, Concession 1, and Lot 46, Concession 2, West of Bury Road, Township of St Edmunds. If you concur may the draft letter to Transport be signed and despatched, please.

Dear Sir:

Re: Gap Filler Radar Station Tobermory Ontario
Your File: 1653-741 (RE)

Please refer to the exchange of correspondence between our departments concerning the purchase of property in connection with the Gap Filler Radar Station to be constructed at Tobermory, Ontario.

Our engineering staffs have determined that it is necessary to relocate our buildings and tower at this site because the gravel pit adjacent to the installation has been extended about 30' beyon its original limits in Lot 46, Concession 1. As illustrated on Plan T52-1-1000-1 Revision 3, six copies of which are attached, the land we wish to acquire in Lot 46, Concession 1, is the same size in area as previously reported, 230' x 270', but the southerly limit will now be 240' instead of 220' north of the northerly limit of the Warner Bay Road. In the case of Lot 46, Concession 2, the property owned by CO Speers, our requirement will be for a parcel measuring 70; by 270' in order that our faciities may be relocated.

I would be please if you would have your agents reopen negotiations with the owners involved and obtain offers of settlement covering the revised configuration. Our contractor engaged on constructing the Gap Filler Site will be responsible for relocating the existing farm fence between Concessions 1 and 2.

Yours sincerely,

(EB Armstrong)
Deputy Minister
