Re: Gap Filler Radar Stations

Dear Sir:

We attach hereto two (2) copies of a letter received from the Hydro Electric Power Commission of Ontario concerning the power supply to three sites. In reviewing the proposals we note that the Hydro have not borne any cost for the conversion of the distribution systems to three phase for the Algonquin and Formosa sites. Our preliminary discussions with the Hydro Area Managers indicated that the Hydro would cover the cost of line improvements, as noted in the Survey Reports we previously submitted. We also note that despite our requests for confirmation of the power rate structure, no mention is made of this in the proposal.

If requested, we are prepared to discuss the proposals with Hydro with a view to reducing the cost to DND for the two sites noted. Your direction is requested in this regard.

The fourth site they referred to, Aspholdel Township, is the Hastings site concerning which we have not yet formally approached then, nor would they have the Siting Instruction Plan or General Site Plan. Apparently, some confusion exists with respect to the power requirements for this site.

We will await your further instructions.

Yours very truly,
