Termination of Construction
Gap Filler Radar Stations - Various
DCL was advised in our 10-10-62 TD2213 (DM) of 1 Aug 1962 that it was our intention to defer the Gap Filler Radar Programme. DCL was requested to advise the status of the twenty five (25) contracts awarded to date. On 7 Aug a meeting was held at DCL attended by representatives of DCEC and DCEP. The status of each Gap Filler Radar contract was reviewed and a decision made as to the stage at which each contract would be terminated. The ten stations listed in Appendix "A" to the attached letter to DCL are substantially completed except for the installation of the diesel alternator set and its associated equipment. The seven stations listed in Appendix "B" will have the buildings erected but not completed with materials and equipment already delivered to them. The eight stations listed in Appendix "C" will have the access roads and the building and tower foundations partially completed. Materials and equipment already delivered will be returned to an RCAF station for storage. The appendices also list the precautionary measures which should be taken to protect the expenditure made to date.
DCL has issued instructions to their Branch Managers to terminate the various contracts.
