DEPUTY MINISTER OF TRANSPORT
OTTAWA, CANADA.

July 26th, 1961.

File: 26-10-7 (RE)

Dear Sir:

Re: Proposed Gap Filler Site - Mattawa,
Ontario - Mr Carl E Langben -
Your file: S10-136-80/5 Vol 2
(CCE/Prop)

Referring to previous correspondence concerning your requirements for the subject site enclosed is copy an agreement obtained from Carl E Langben which will allow your Department to go on his property in Lots 36 and 37, Concession 8, Township of Mattawa, to undertake contour surveys and soil tests.

The area selected for the subject requirement has a good virgin growth of timber some of which could be considered as merchantable hardwood.

In 1957 the Hydro Electric Power Commision of Ontario negotiated an easement with the owner over another portion of his property paying him $20.00 per acre for their requirements and leaving the logs for the Vendor.

The enclosed entry permission includes a clause to the effect that should the lands be found satisfactory for this purpose, they can be optioned at the rate of $30.00 per acre, the owner reserving the right for future use of the access road for himself and also reserving mines and minerals, except such sand and gravel as is required for construction of your installation.

The requested compensation for the land is considered fair and reasonable and is recommended for acceptance. We will await your Department's advice as to whether or not you wish the land optioned.

Yours truly,

JR Baldwin,
Deputy Minister

The Deputy Minister
Department of National Defence,
Ottawa, Ontario.
