F/O DS "Dave" Hirst - CF-100 pilot with 440 SquadronComments:
F/O DS "Dave" Hirst and F/O J "Jim" Walton were flying in a T-33 from Wing Instrument Flight and had completed an approach at 4 (F) Wing. They lost their radios on approach and because of thick cloud above, tried to return to 3 (F) Wing under the cloud. The cloud got progressively lower and they crashed into a microwave tower between 4 (F) Wing and 3 (F) Wing.
