Details:

13 July 1962 - F/O Frances Richard Eustace "Dick" Dann

Comments by John Swallow:

F/O FRE "Dick" Dann, was with 434 Squadron at Zweibrucken, Germany. He was a hell of a fine fellow - a non-drinker and non-smoker who still managed to attend all the beer calls and nonsense that we did back then. He unfortunately drowned while scuba diving off the coast of Spain. "Drowned" isn't quite proper, as I believe he had a stroke or an embolism of some sort. He was swimming in about 30 feet of water and being monitored by F/O Bill Meda. When Dick didn't surface, Bill, a non-swimmer, went in after him and got him in the boat. Too late of course. I always thought Bill should have got some formal recognition for what he did..
