I was working in the Relay Centre at Air Division HQ (Metz France) on a Sunday morning, and the teletype operator of the 4 Wing circuit called to tell me that he would be out for a few minutes to go and wake up the TelOp who was supposed to relieve him. A few minutes later, the O/O on duty called and said that the TelOp who was supposed to come on duty at 8am will not be coming, because he had died in a motorcycle accident during the night. His name was LAC Schultz. The O/O found a replacement.
