0001 – Yellowjack on Simple Alert for Exercise Co-Op 04/1500 Scarlet by 0335Z, R hour by 0455Z. 0905 – Handcuff 117 declared an emergency due to control problems. Checkerboard Oscar vectored onto him by Yellowjack and he landed safely at Grostenquin at 0927Z. 2359 – Phase I of Co-Op completed. Second phase to begin 0930 6 Jun.

1806 – Co-Op Fadeout.

8 Jun 62

1042 – Strongbox Romeo 2 aborted a Zulu mission due to engine surge. Steered back to base and landed safely at Zweibrucken at 1059.

11 Jun 62

1333 – Tod Blue (2 USAF F-100s) declared an emergency due to unserviceable radios and Tacan. Identified by Yellowjack and handed off to Barber control. They landed safely at Bitburg at 1415Z.

2000 – Exercise Roulette 21/62 carried out.

21 Jun 62

1100 – Exercise Roulette 22/62 carried out. 1243 – Horseshoe Golf Lead, under Yellowjack control, requested an emergency GCI/GCA into Marville due to fuel problems. Landed safely at 1251. 2002 – Rhubarb Papa 2 aborted a Twin Threat mission due to elevator control troubles. Landed safely at 3 Wing at 2014. 2012 – Horseshoe Fox 2 under Yellowjack control, aborted a Twin Threat mission because of unserviceable radio transmitters. Landed safely at Marville at 2029.

1100 – Exercise Roulette 23/62 carried out.

29 Jun 62

0843 – Yardman Victor 2 under Yellowjack control aborted a Zulu mission due to severe vibration in airframe. Landed safely at 4 Wing at 0850.

2 Jul 62

1600 – Horseman Papa section was diverted onto an SOS by Yellowjack 150 degrees for 25 nm from Metz, reported at 300 feet. Papa broke off at 1617 short of fuel, never having made contact with the SOS.

1100 – Exercise Roulette 24/62 carried out.

1000 – Exercise Roulette 25/62 carried out.

16 Jul 62

0950 – Yardman X-Ray lead, under Yellowjack control, declared an emergency due to compressor stall. He obtained a re-light and cancelled the emergency. 1229 – Horseman November Two, under Yellowjack control, declared an emergency when his canopy opened at height. He initiated an emergency descent to 10,000 feet and was given a GCI/GCA into 2 Wing and landed safely at 1232.

19 Jul 62

0800 – Exercise Roulette 26/62 carried out. 1900 – Rhubarb Oscar Lead, under Yellowjack control, lost all radios. Oscar 2 and 3 were diverted to him by Yellowjack and escorted him to 4 Wing where he landed safely at 1920.

21 Jul 62

1245 – Student Kilo Lead, under Yellowjack control, declared an emergency due to a surging engine and fuel pressure problems. Directed towards Marville when engine surge ceased and emergency was cancelled.

23 Jul 62

2017 – Rhubarb Papa Lead, under Yellowjack control, aborted a Twin Threat mission when he lost receivers. Recovered at 4 Wing and landed safely.

26 Jul 62

1100 – Exercise Roulette 27/62 carried out.

2 Aug 62

1100 – Exercise Roulette 28/62 carried out.

9 Aug 62

1100 – Exercise Roulette 29/62 carried out.

10 Aug 62

1223 – Cashbox 7 declared emergency when his engine flamed out. Obtained a re-light and was steered to base by Yellowjack. Landed safely.

13 Aug 62

1500 – SOS reported to Yellowjack by Barber control. Stopgap Golf were diverted by Yellowjack and intercepted the SOS which proved to be an American aircraft needing no assistance. Believed to be a faulty parrot.

15 Aug 62

1500 – Student Alpha section were diverted by Yellowjack on AF 371, and RCAF T-33 with no radios. Were broken off when aircraft landed safely at Laon. 1635 – Student Alpha 2 aborted Zulu mission due to bad fuel venting. Was steered to Marville where he landed safely.

16 Aug 62

0730 – Exercise Roulette 30/62 carried out.

21 Aug 62

2011 – Cartridge 29 declared an emergency when he lost airspeed indicator and altimeter. Cartridge 31 was vectored to 29 and the two were given a GCI/GCA into Marville by Yellowjack. Cartridge 29 landed safely at 2048.

23 Aug 62

1100 – Exercise Roulette 31/62 carried out.

30 Aug 62

1100 – Exercise Roulette 32/62 carried out.

4 Sep 62

1308 – Rhubarb Papa 2 aborted his mission due to low engine oil pressure. Steered to 4 Wing by Yellowjack and landed safely.

8 Sep 62

0900 – Yellowjack picked up an SOS 4 miles south east of 2 Wing. Emergency was German F-84 which subsequently crashed landed at 2 Wing. The pilot was slightly injured.

11 Sep 62

2226 – Exercise Fallex 62 build-up commenced. Yellowjack to have minimum possible participation.

12 Sep 62

1139 – Cartridge 14 declared an emergency because of fuel shortage and declared himself lost. Picked up by Yellowjack 5 miles east of Marville and steered to Marville where he landed safely.

13 Sep 62

1100 – Exercise Roulette 33/62 carried out.

25 Sep 62

0924 – JC 109 (German F-86) declared an emergency when his canopy blew off at height. Position was 20 miles west of Ramstein. Yardman Whiskey was diverted and escorted him to Furstenfeldbruck where he landed safely. 1621 – Horseman Charlie Lead aborted his mission due to engine fire warning light. Given steer to 2 Wing by Yellowjack where he landed safely.

1100 – Exercise Roulette 36/62 carried out.

10 Oct 62

1722 – Yellowjack picked up an SOS in EF0520 and Logroll scrambled aircraft which identified 2 Belgian CF-100s with faulty canopies. No help needed however and USAF aircraft returned to base.

16 Oct 62

2054 – Yardman Echo Lead aborted Zulu mission when his engine began to vibrate. Steered to 4 Wing by Yellowjack where he landed safely.

18 Oct 62

1100 – Exercise Roulette 37/62 carried out.

22 Oct 62

1816 – Horseshoe Fox 2 aborted a Twin Threat mission when he lost all radios. Horseshoe Fix 1 and 3 escorted while Yellowjack steered all three to Marville. Landed safely at Marville at 1832.

25 Oct 62

1100 – Exercise Roulette 38/62 carried out.

30 Oct 62

1836 – Horseshoe Golf 3 declared an emergency due to fuel shortage after he had diverted from Marville to Soellingen. Was given a straight-in GCI/GCA by Yellowjack and landed safely at 1859.

1 Nov 62

1458 – A French Air Force Mirage III had a flame out in the Metz area and crashed one half mile east south east of Yellowjack (in bush just beyond our perimeter road). Pilot bailed out at last minute after steering aircraft away from site. Pilot recovered by Yellowjack personnel and aircraft wreckage spotted by our people who directed Gendarmes to spot.

4 Nov 62

1249 – Horseman Oscar section on mutuals, requested pigeons from Yellowjack. Upon being given 180 at 100 miles, he declared am emergency stating he didn’t have fuel to reach 2 Wing. Yellowjack effected a handoff to Logroll who gave him a GCI/GCA into Bitburg where he landed safely.

6 Nov 62

0847 – Checkerboard November and Oscar diverted to SOS which proved to be an American aircraft with faulty parrot.

8 Nov 62

1100 – Exercise Roulette 39/62 carried out. 1800 – Rhubarb Papa Lead aborted a Twin Threat mission when he lost all radios. Was steered into Soellingen by use of Beacon Voice transmissions where he landed safely at 1918.

13 Nov 62

1259 – Bulldog Golf returned to Yellowjack control (from Soellingen GCA) when GCA lost contact with him. Golf declared an emergency because of low fuel and was given a GCI/GCA into Soellingen where he landed safely.

22 Nov 62

1353 – Jacket Juliet, 4 F-86s, declared an emergency when they became lost while attempting to home into the Soellingen beacon. Picked up by Yellowjack and given GCI/GCA into Soellingen and landed safely at 1406.

23 Nov 62

1351 – Student Mike declared an emergency due to shortage of fuel and stated they were lost. Picked up by Yellowjack and steered to Marville where they landed safely at 1405.

29 Nov 62

1100 – Exercise Roulette 40/62 carried out.
