TYPE 80 ANNUAL MAINTENANCE REPORT
8 Aug – 16 Aug 59

The T 80 underwent it’s annual overhaul. Work parties from Decca, John Currens and Slarkie Gardner arrived and brought the T 80 up to hand-over specification.

A top edge alignment of the reflector was carried out and the upper ball race of the turntable inspected. Ten (10) Decon mods and three (30 Curruns mods were fitted.

During this same period a crew from Marconi overhauled the Fixed coil equipment. To complete the annual maintenance on all radar equipment on 7 Sep the General Electric Company started the overhaul of the 3 MPS 14s and the MPS 11. Five modifications were incorporated on the equipment – i.e.

  1. GPA – 40 Monitoring equipment
  2. Ferrite isolator
  3. Raid Size Indicator
  4. Azimuth Blanker
  5. Antenna Control

The overhaul went according to schedule but incorporation of these five (5) mods proved to be difficult. The Antenna Control mod and the GPA 40 Monitor refused to work and General Electric Company worked away at these mods until mid December until all was finally cleared.
