Historical Narrative
2452 Aircraft Control and Warning Unit (Aux) Quebec City, PQ
1 Dec 51 to 30 Jun 52

While this Unit is still in temporary quarters, it still has not been an uneventful period.

The Unit has 25 officers on its strength under the command of Squadron Leader Guy Plamondon, DFC with Bar, ADC. It is still in quarters rented from Laval University in their Faculty of Science Building, but it has high hopes of moving into the former Bell Building at 114 St. John Street, in the month of September.

The first item of importance during the period was four promotions effective 1 Jan 52. F/O Hyatt of our Auxiliary Support Unit was promoted to Flight Lieutenant. The following controllers were also promoted to F/L: F/O Cote, F/O Goulet and F/O Jutras.

Due to the fact that we are without a mess we were unusually fortunate in being able to join with the Navy on the 1st of January to have the usual at home party.

On the 5th and 6th of April, the Controllers visited 2401 AC&WU in Montreal where they conducted a very successful Synthetic Exercise in the Operations Room. This was new for the Controllers of this Unit, for, as previously mentioned we are in temporary quarters, we have no Operations Room and all the training has been strictly theoretical in classrooms.

April 24th the new F/Ls gave a party at the Quebec Flying Club to celebrate their promotions and at the same time to bid farewell to one of the original officers of the Unit, F/L "Bill" McKay who was forced to leave the Unit due to a transfer in his Civilian occupation.

May 12th the officers gave a party at the Dame Blanche to bid farewell to another of the original officers F/O "Bert" Capel, who also, has left Quebec.

June 19th this Unit was inspected by Group Captain Archambault. Following the inspection, the officers held a reception for the Group Captain and his reviewing officers at the Quebec Winter Club.

The Unit is, at the time of writing, busy making preparation for camp on 19 Jul 1952. Everybody is looking forward to Camp and all are hoping that when we get together again in September, it will be in our Permanent Quarters.
