1 Circumstances attending the formation of the unit

  1. Date of formation
  2. Location: 873 Hart St., Trois Rivieres Quebec.
  3. Function: To train personnel as fighter controllers, fighter control operators, clerk typists, clerk accounts, supply technicians and air force policemen and have a maximum of 12 Fighter Controllers Phase 3 and 23 Fighter Control Opertors group 1 or higher available for active duty with the regular force in time of emergency.

4 Unit Activities on Summer Camp and Contact Training

14 May to 10 Sep 60

Summer Camp 1960 and Contact Training from 14 May to 10 Sep 60 were held at RCAF Stn Lac St Denis, Que.

Officers: Ten Officers attended summer camp at RCAF Station Lac St Denis, Que for periods varying from a maximum of 15 days to a minimum of 6 days. One officer was on special duty at RCAF Stn Cold Lake, Alta, for a period of 8 weeks namely P/O S Robert Med/Nurse. F/O P Giroux AS/FtrC was posted to RCAF Stn Centralia, Ont, for a period of SD from 23 Jul to 27 Sep 60. The purpose of this posting was to attend the Officers Training Course Entry NFL 6005 commencing 25 Jul 60. F/O Giroux passed the course.

Airmen: Thirty-three airmen attended summer camp at RCAF Stn Lac St Denis, Que for periods varying from 6 to 15 days.

5 Unit Activities - RTTP

Apr 60 to 31 Aug 60

A total of 54 RTTP applicants were recruited for the 1960 RTTP program at this unit. Training commenced in Apr 60. The training was divided in two phases. Phase I training consisted in indoctrination and Phase II consisited of lectures and drill. Below is the breakdown of RTTP training:

Number of RTTP Recruited: FtrCOp - 44, ClkAdm - 10

Results

Passed Group 1 Exams: FtrCOp 37, ClkAdm 7.

Failed Group 1 Exams: FtrCOp 6, ClkAdm 3.

One airman was released before the end of the training.

A one day visit to RCAF Stn Lac St Denis, Que for familiarization purposes was arranged for all RTTP students during the month of August.

A parent's visit was arranged during Aug 60 so that they could see their son doing operational duties, and, they were taken for a tour of the building.

6 Standdown - 28 June 60

Stand Down for regular training was held at 2453 AC&WS from 0001 hrs Tuesday 28 Jun until 2359 hrs Wednesday 7 Sep 60.

7 Change of Command: 15 Sep 60

A parade was held on the occasion of the change of Commanding Officer at the Armoury of Le Regiment des Trois Rivieres on St Francois-Xavier Street, at 2000 hrs, 15 Sep 60.

8 Trade Examinations: - 16 Oct 60

Trade Examinations were held at 1400 hrs, Sunday 16 Oct 60.

Eligible to write were: 14 FtrCOp, 8 ClkAdm, 1 ClkAcc (M&I), 1 SupTech.

9 Ceremonies:

11 Nov 60

Armistice Day - A parade was held in Trois Rivieres, Que with the Canadian Army (Reserve), RCAF (Aux), Air Cadets, Navy Cadets and the Canadian Legion participating. Wreaths were laid at the cenotaph in Trois Rivieres.
