2400 Aircraft Control and Warning Unit, Toronto, Ont.
11 June 1955 to 28 September 1955

11 Jun 55 to 31 Aug 55

This year there was no special camp period planned for 2400 Squadron as a unit, as previously. This was due to no major exercise having been laid on. Personnel were allowed to arrange their camp period to best coincide with business. Consequently no major group was present at any one time at 33 AC&W Squadron, Falconbridge, Ontario.

15 Aug 55

Interim report issued on summer camp activities to date: It has been felt that this dispersal of personnel in smaller groups has been beneficial. More individual instruction was possible and a greater number of positions were manned.

F/O WO Reilly assumes Unit Security Officer duty and F/O Cook assumes duties of ECM Officer (per Squadron Training Order 25/55).

8 Sep 55

F/O HG Crosby assumes duty of Unit Public Relations Officer from F/O LD Jamieson. F/L JL Oke assumes duty of Unit Historian from F/O EM Cole. F/L JB McGillivray assumes duty of Attendance Officer (per Squadron Training Order 26/55).

14 Sep 55

Initial squadron parade of 1955 - 1956. Assignment to training courses, Ensign raising, march past, and welcoming address by Unit CO S/L Illingworth.

16 Sep 55

Final summer camp report. In phase III, 48 live interceptions carried out and one controller was successfully evaluated for Phase III. In Phase II a total of 561 synthetic interceptions were carried out. Thirteen of sixteen controllers were successfully evaluated. Fighter Control Operations were assigned duties augmenting the regular force. Second year RTTP personnel wrote Group 2 Trade Test and 15 were successful. The Technical personnel augmented regular force, seven of the second year RTTP personnel attained Group 2 trade.

All personnel not detailed for special duty paraded with other units of the RCAF in the Battle of Britain Memorial Church Parade.

21 Sep 55

Squadron Parade Commander F/L Lehman. All personnel assigned to lectures as scheduled.

25 Sep 55

Squadron Parade Commander F/L Gwyn. Lectures and synthetic training throughout the day as scheduled.

23 - 25 Sep 55

Designated personnel proceeded to 31 AC&W Squadron with F/L Hill, OC detachment. This was a very successful week-end in all respects. Eleven live intercepts and seventeen synthetic intercepts were logged during this period by Controllers. The six Fighter Control Operators on duty manned operational positions. F/L's Hill and Waterfield completed Phase II evalutation. F/O Griffiths was evaluated for Phase III. With his live intercepts of the week-end F/L Waterfield completed the necessary 25 live intercepts.

As per Squadron Training Order 27/55, Staff and Instruction appointments logged. F/O WJ Drennan and F/O RC Habbeshaw were attached to 14 OpWg HQ.
