Designated personnel detached to Stn Edgar. Flying restricted due to bad weather, but controllers logged five live and twenty six synthetic intercepts. Ftr COps trained with regular force personnel.

Summer RTTP training for sixty recruits commenced at Stn Toronto, under the direction of 2400 Sqn personnel. F/L Scammell OC Summer Training Plan with F/L Young as Chief Instructor and Cpl Lynden as NCO i/c Training.

Squadron parade. Synthetic and manual training carried out and lectures given.

Squadron pay parade, followed by training. Summer stand-down from regular training from this date.

A/F/L TP King, F/Os JJ Meighan and KL Morrish promoted to substantive rank of Flight Lieutenant, effective this date.

Summer URTP training commenced at Stn Toronto under the direction of 2400 Sqn personnel. Twenty two Flight Cadets (7 female and 15 male) reported for training in Phase 1 FtrC. The academical phase was given by S/L Illingworth & F/Os Scammell and Cole. Practical phase given by F/L King & F/O Boyd.

URTP FtrC Phase I completed. Twenty one cadets passed the examination with one failure. All trainees were able to complete several intercepts on the synthetic trainer before being posted to regular force units for Phase II trg.

20 Aug 56

Initial staff meeting presided over by Commanding Officer. Subjects discussed were summer camp, discipline, attendance, security and training.

22 Aug 56

RTTP training completed. The quality of the trainees was generally good with very few releases for disciplinary reasons. The training included visits to RMC Kingson and TCHQ Trenton as a reward for good marks. Other trainees were given Link Trainer experience at Downsview and all trainees were taken on a tour of Downsview Aerodrome. Of the fifty-six trainees attempting the examination, fifty-three were successful.

Initial parade after summer stand-down. Organization and detailing of personnel into crews and staff positions.

15 Sep 56

Squadron parade. Rehearsal for Battle of Britain parade by all personnel, followed by lectures and discussions.

16 Sep 56

Squadron took part in Battle of Britain parade. Services held at Metropolitan United Church and St Michaels Cathedral in Toronto. After services, squadron participated in march-past on Yonge Street. Salute taken by A/M Curtis.

17 Sep 56

Squadron staff meeting. Summer camp, training, discipline and other matters of squadron discipline discussed.

19 Sep 56

Squadron parade. Two crews manned the operational training unit and remainder of personnel attended lectures.

22 Sep 56

Summer training at Stn Edgar completed on this date. FtrCs completed 289 live intercepts including two evaluations, 796 synthetic and 4 manual intercepts including 7 synthetic evaluations, 3 Duty Controller, 6 Surveillance Controller & 2 ASI evaluations. Practical training and practice given Ftr COps and technical personnel.

22 - 23 Sep 56

Week-end training for twenty designated personnel at Stn Edgar. Weather conditions good for flying on one day only. Nine live and four synthetic intercepts completed plus one a/c given navigational surveillance. One Duty Controller evaluation completed.

23 Sep 56

Parade for designated personnel. Operational training unit manned in conjunction with the synthetic and manual trainers. Other personnel attended lectures.

26 Sep 56

Squadron parade. COs inspection and march-past. One crew manned operational training unit in conjunction with synthetic and manual trainers. Remainder of personnel attended training lectures.

30 Sep 56

S/L RA Illingworth relinguished command of 2400 Sqn on posting to 14 Op Wg HQ (Aux). Command of units taken over by F/L L Waterfield. Parade for crews 3 & 4. Operational training unit manned in conjunction with synthetic & manual trainers.

Squadron parade followed by lectures and operational training.

7 Oct 56

Squadron stand-down (Thanksgiving Holiday).

Squadron parade. S/L RA Illingworth handed over command of the squadron to F/L L Waterfield. Parade was witnessed by guests of personnel and contingent of officers from RCAF Stn Edgar, including W/C Bryant. Following the parade, guests were entertained in the Officers Mess and "B" Mess by squadron members.

13 - 14 Oct 56

Week-end training for designated twenty-seven personnel at Stn Edgar. Forty-nine live intercepts completed (15 day and 34 all weather) and in addition six a/c were given navigational surveillance. One live evaluation completed. Weather conditions good on both days and radar & communications good. Ftr COps trained with regular personnel.

Week-end training for sixteen designated personnel at Station Edgar. Eight Ftr Cs and eight Ftr COps participated. Weather conditions excellent for flying on both days, but intercepts restricted due to lack of aircraft. Only one section of CF-100 a/c made available to us and that one aborted due to radio trouble, however live intercepts were completed (14 day and one a/w). Ftr COps carried out practical training with regular crews & rotated in floor duties and radar report room.

Week-end training for nineteen designated at Station Edgar. Weather generally good. Radar & Communications generally good. Twenty-two live intercepts (12 day and 10 a/w) and ten synthetic intercepts completed. One Surveillance Controller, one Duty Controller and one Intercept Controller position evaluated. This completed two Phase III evaluations (F/L Ogilvie & F/O Scott). In addition, six a/c were given navigational surveillance. Ftr COps trained with regular force personnel.
