1 December 1956 to 31 May 1957

Dec 56

Results of October Trade Examinations were received. Three airmen of the RTTP classof 1955 have qualified for Ftr COp Group 2 (O). Eleven Fighter Controllers have passed Phase I.

7 - 9 Dec 56

Eight officers Fighter Controllers and sixteen Ftr COps proceed to Lac St Denis.

15 Dec 56

The Children's Christmas party, organized by the Ladies Auxiliary is held on Saturday, 15 Dec, for the children of the officers and airmen of the Squadron.

31 Dec 56

New Year's Eve party is held in the Mess and is attended by a great percentage of the offices and their wives.

1 Jan 57

The Officers' Mess is open from 1000 hrs to 1700 hrs for the Queen's Levee. Many visitors came including A/V/M LE Wray and G/C Richer. Officers from this Squadron were also detailed to visit other militay units in the Montreal area.

F/O RL Cross, regular support officer, is promoted to the substantive rank of F/L. Four auxiliary officers are also promoted to the substantive rank of Flight Lieutenant. They are F/O's Creswick, Michaud, Shannon, and Welbourn, all Fighter Controllers.

4 - 6 Jan 57

Ten Fighter Controllers proceed to Lac St Denis. Twenty live intercepts are completed. There was no synthetics as the simulator at Lac St Denis was unservicable.

11 - 13 Jan 57

Six Fighter Controllers and eleven Ftr COps proceed to Lac St Denis. Fighter Controllers completed 5 live interceptions. No synthetics.

18 - 20 Jan 57

Five Fighter Controllers and fourteen Ftr COps proceed on contact training to Lac St Denis. Seventeen live intercepts are completed by the Fighter Controllers and thirty synthetics. During that week-end, F/L Michaud is checked out on Phase III Intercept Controller.

26 - 27 Jan 57

Eleven Fighter Controllers and fourteen Ftr COps proceed on Special Duty to Lac St Denis, for contact training. Fighter Controllers carry out fifteen live intercepts and thirty-one synthetics.

27 Jan 57

Trade examinations for F/O and GSK for F/L are held. Thirteen F/O's and four F/Ls are in attendance.

During the month of January, a total of 95 synthetic interceptions were carried out at the Squadron's HQ. Because of equipment shortage, flights were divided in lesser groups coming for operational training four nights a week.

1 - 3 Feb 57

Eleven Ftr C and thirteen Ftr COps proceed to Lac St Denis. Seventeen live intercepts are carried out by the Fighter Controllers and a total of 69 synthetics.

5 Feb 57

25 Ftr COps visited Combat Operations Center at Stn St Hubert for familiarization tour. Transportation was provided by Stn St Hubert.

Recruiting starts for 1957 RTTP training. This Squadron is allowed a quota of 100 new recruits plus 10 air cadets, making a possible total of 110.

8 - 10 Feb 57

Six Fighter Controllers and eight Ftr COps proceed to Lac St Denis. No live intercept are carried out. There is a total of 66 synthetic interceptions.

10 Feb 57

Second part of Qualifying Examinations is being held. Eleven F/Os are writing GSK and five F/L's are writing Trade Examinations.

15 Feb 57

The Squadron's Annual Radar Ball was held in the Prince of Wales Room of the Windsor Hotel. The guest of honour was A/C EM Reyno, Deputy Air Officer Commanding, Air Defence Command. G/C AM Jardine, CO, Stn St Hubert, was also present as well as many other CO's of regular and Auxiliary units. RCAF Training Command Band provided the music.

16 Feb 57

25 Ftr COps visited the 425 (F) Sqn at Stn St Hubert for familiarization and general interest. Familiarization flight in Dakota was provided by Stn St Hubert for all personnel.

23 - 24 Feb 57

Eight FtrC and seven Ftr COps proceed to Lac St Denis. Seven live intercepts and 47 synthetics are carried out by the FtrC.

During the month of Feb a total of 31 live and 288 synthetic intercepts have been carried out.

8 - 10 Mar 57

12 Fighter Controllers and 7 Ftr COps proceed to Lac Stn Denis. No live intercepts are carried out. A total of 35 synthetics are completed.

1 Group HQ (Aux) is scheduled to disband as of 15 April 57. This Squadron has already begun to report to ADC for General Administration and to RCAF Stn St Hubert for Pay and Accounting and Supplies. A new policy from ADC affects our training at heavy sites - only officers of the Ftr C branch and airmen and airwomen of the Ftr COp trade who are qualified group 1 (O) will be authorized to proceed to St Denis in the future.

15 - 17 Mar 57

Eight Fighter Controller proceed to Lac St Denis and carry out 11 live intercepts and 37 synthetics.

22 - 24 Mar 57

Six FtrC and five Ftr COp proceed to Lac St Denis. Ftr C carry out a total of 13 live intercepts, but no synthetics.

28 Mar 57

35 officers, Fighter Contollers, visit 425 and 416 (F) Sqns for familiarization, cross training and general interest.

29 - 31 Mar 57

12 Ftr C and 5 Ftr COp proceed to Lac St Denis.

30 Mar 57

Phase I of RTTP training starts with 88 recruits. Training will be carried out at the Squadron every Saturday until end of May.

1 Apr 57

Sgt McEwen, Discip, and Sgt Mailhot, Rdr Tech (G) are promoted to the substantive rank of Flight Sergeant.

5 - 7 Apr 57

Four Ftr C and five Ftr COp proceed to Lac St Denis. A total of 24 synthetic intercepts are carried out.

12 - 14 Apr 57

9 FtrC proceed to Lac St Denis and complete 5 live intercepts and 26 synthetics.

14 Apr 57

Trade Examinations are held. 15 airmen and airwomen representing the following trades are writing: Ftr COp, Com Tech (A), Sup Tech, Clk Steno, Clk Typ, Acc, AFP, and Stwd.

27 - 28 Apr 57

6 Ftr C proceed to Lac St Denis and carry out 12 live intercepts and 49 synthetics.

30 Apr 57

Ex Cpl EM Vorachek, Ftr COp, 3 (O), recently released from the RCAF Regular has enrolled in the Auxiliary and has been promoted to A/Sgt.

3 - 5 May 57

10 Ftr C and 5 Ftr COp proceed to Lac St Denis.

10 May 57

Mess Dinner is held in the Officers' Mess. Amongst the guests are G/C DH Gwinn, SGESO, and S/L Moir, SORP, both from ADC.

11 - 12 May 57

5 Ftr C proceed to Lac St Denis.

13 May 57

The following trades are being deleted from our establishment: CH, Elect (Gen), Carp, Ptr, Plr, Clk, Eng, FF, PpOp. Personnel now holding these postions will be remustered, transferred or released.

14 May 57

S/L W Harvey, CTO, is transferred to the Supplementary Reserve.

24 - 26 May 57

Ftr C and 4 Ftr COp proceed to Lac St Denis.

CE Personnel from Stn St Hubert visit this unit to study the accommodation facilities for 4008 MU (Aux) which should be transferred to this building eff 1 Sep 57.
