Jul - Aug 56

Summer Camp for the unit held at RCAF Stn Senneterre and was well attended, especially during the second week as a large percentage of the personnel could not find it possible to attend the first week. 18 Officers and a number of airmen and airwomen gained experience and training not normally obtained at the unit. The co-operation and helpfulness of the permanent force officers and men was much appreciated. Five (?) Officers obtained Phase 2 of their controllers training.

Other ranks and support personnel of technical trades were transferred to other stations for summer training. F/O LI Gunn, F/O MD Webb and F/O GL Jones promoted to substantive rank of F/L effective July 1. F/O JA John, the squadron support officer, was granted his permanent commission as of July 1.

Effective Aug 24 F/L VE McCaw was SOS on transfer to the regular force.

Aug 11 F/L GL Jones was SOS on transfer to 2400 AC&WS (Aux) Toronto.

F/L Morrison and F/O J Brown, who were unable to attend Summer Camp in July attended Station Senneterre and Falconbridge in Aug for a period of contact training.

Sep - Oct 56

Routine training recommenced stand-down following Summer Camp. Schedules were drawn up for lectures for those who had not attained their Phase 1 tests in October. This was done but to date no results have been received. Lectures were also continued for Phase 2 and 3 personnel and 15-J1D synthetic training equipment was heavily used by officers and airmen with regular schedule being drawn up for its use. The opportunity for contact training at the 916th's AC&WS USAF at Milner Ridge was taken advantage of by officers and airmen on weekends.

Nov 56

Conference held at 17 Wing HQ Nov 6 with S/L NA Keene AFHQ DAPC, S/L AR Bellis AFHQ DPC, S/L PF Lee AFHQ DGT and a representative from AFHQ RO to discuss officer and airmen careers, policy and administration, ground training and related subjects.

During the latter part of the month nine officers intensified their training on synthetic intercepts in anticipation of the visit on the weekend of Dec 1 by F/O W Whitley of Stn Senneterre, who is coming to give them the Phase 2 evaluations. Much of this training was carried out at 916th AC&WS USAF on weekends and their lectures and other training was temporarily sacrificed so that they might get the required number of intercepts in and increase their proficiency. Other personnel received lectures and training as per schedule.

At the middle of Nov a series of officers indoctrination lectures were commenced with 3052 TTU, to be given every alternate Sunday morning until Feb.

During the month, F/O CA Young undertook three weeks training at Stn Senneterre attaining his Phase 2.
