403 (FB) Squadron

Calgary, Alberta


W/C Freeman, Commanding Officer of 403 (FB) Squadron (Aux) Calgary was killed during a routine formation exercise on 29th November 1953, and was buried with full military honors on 2nd December 1953. S/L Parkyn was the officer in charge of the funeral parade and it was one of the largest military funerals ever witnessed in the City of Calgary, as hundreds of service personnel and civilian friends and relatives attended to pay their last respects to the popular commander of 403 Squadron.

On 14th November 1954, a Memorial Service was held in the Grace Presbyterian Church for W/C Freeman who was killed one year ago during a routine formation exercise as Commanding Officer of 403 Sqn. The service was conducted by Dr FS Morley and the scripture read by S/L G Kelly.
