Four officers and 2 NCOs proceeded on TD to COC Vancouver.

19 Dec 57

A Pay Parade was held prior to the Christmas Standdown.

22 Dec 57

A Christmas party for dependents was held in the drill hall of RCAF Station Calgary.

5 Jan 58

First parade after Christmas standdown.

10 Jan 58

5 Air Div notified this unit that F/L RG Ings successfully completed the Fighter Controller course eff 13 Dec 57.

17 Jan 58

Defence Minister George Pearkes visited Calgary and gave an address to which all Officers were invited.

18 Jan 58

F/L J Hilton arrived from RCAF Stn Cold Lake for Fighter Controller evaluations.

26 Jan 58

A CO's parade was held. S/L FE Clarke commended the unit for the good turnout.

Officers' Qualifying Exams were held. Flying Officers wrote the Trade Exams and Flight Lieutenants wrote the GSK exams.

2 Feb 58

Standdown.

9 Feb 58

Officers Qualifying Exams were held. F/Ls wrote the Trade Exams and F/Os wrote the GSK exams.

14 Feb 58

A Mess Dinner was held in the Officers Mess at RCAF Stn Calgary. G/C Mostyn-Brown, CO of 30 Wing, was the guest speaker.

9 Mar 58

A CO's parade was held. S/L FE Clarke announced the promotion of F/L RG Ings to succeed him as CO of the Squadron eff 26 Apr 58.

18 Mar 58

5 Air Div notified this unit that F/O ADE Houchin, F/O FH Phillips and F/O RM Toivanen had successfully completed the Phase II Evaluation Controller course.

8 Apr 58

F/L JE Fenwick proceeded on TD to RCAF Stn Cold Lake for Controllers Proficiency Unit course. F/L LJ Beaudry was transferred to the Regular Support Staff to replace him as OC Support for the period 8 Apr 58 to 11 May 58.

20 Apr 58

Fighter Controller Phase I exams were held. Twelve officers were eligible to write. The FtrCOp trade exams were also held and seven FtrCOps were eligible to write.

26 Apr 58

The handing-over ceremony was held when A/S/L FE Clarke relinquished command of the unit to A/S/L RG Ings. A/C AD Ross was present at the ceremony and was a guest at the Squadron "dining-in" held later. Awards of proficiency prizes were made at the dinner to two corporals, an airwoman and an airman for their outstanding performance during the last quarter. Silver mugs were also presented to members of the squadron who were leaving after a minimum of one year in the Auxiliary. F/O G Fillion proposed the toast to S/L & Mrs FE Clarke and presented them with a gift from the squadron.

1 May 58

All Officers attended a film on radioactivity, which was presented by Training Command. A lecture and discussion period was held afterwards.

4 May 58

All personnel designated by the CO to hold permanent "I" cards were photographed and finger printed.

5 May 58

W/C AG Lawrence, S/L GJ Moir, and S/L RH Pook were visitors from Air Defence Command.

18 May 58

F/L Dw McNichol and Sgt AL Suelzle from 5 Air Div proceeded to this unit for an annual administrative inspection. F/L McNichols assistance and observations were much appreciated.

Our continued week-end exercises to Cold Lake has given our Fighter Controllers the much needed training and experience necessary for the successful completion of their Fighter Controller Course.

LAW I Robinson ClkTyp on Special Duty in the Orderly Room has been of much assistance and the discontinuance of her Special Duty has resulted in our Orderly Room being overloaded.

The adopted policy of bi-weekly section head meetings has done much toward the high degree of harmony with which all sections have co-operated.
