Ground Observer Corps

11 GObC Squadron, Prince George, BC

I was posted to the GObC Squadron at Prince George between the spring of 1958 and the spring of 1959. I remember the following personnel during my tour at Prince George:

F/L MacKinnon – OC of the Squadron

F/O Jack Leonard

Unidentified F/O

Unidentified F/O

Corporal Marv Graves

LAC Jake Pohl

LAC Mal Killam

LAC ? Sullivan

LAC Bill King

LAC Alex Brown

LAC Eric Redman

There were others but I can not remember their names at the moment. All but Bill King were single and as a result, the tour was for only one year, thereby resulting in a very high turnover. Our field trips to visit our observation posts were an adventure. One of my trips was to Pronce Rupert and all points in between. Another trip took us to Alexis Creek which was very close to where the radar station at Puntzi Mountain was located. The trips usually lasted a week or two. I believe that the GObC Unit at Prince George closed down in 1960 or 1961.
