APPENDIX "A": Personnel Establishment.

INFORMATION

Owing to increased commitments in connection with maintenance and repair of RDF equipment, it has been decided to form an RDF Maintenance UNit for units in Western Air Command.

INTENTION

It is intended to form No 2 RDF Maintenance Unit.

EXECUTION

Effective Date

No 2 RDF Maintenance Unit is to form at No 3 Repair Depot, Vancouver, BC effective October 23rd, 1942.

Command

An Officer will be appointed to command this Unit.

Control

No 2 RDF Maintenance Unit, through the Commanding Officer, No 3 Repair Depot, is to come under the Air Officer Commanding, Western Air Command, for all purposes.

Responsibilities

No 2 RDF Maintenance Unit is to be responsible for the installation, maintenance and testing of RDF equipment, in accordance with instructions which will be issued separately from AFHQ (AMAE).

Personnel

AMP in collaboration with AMAE and ANAS (D of S) is to arrange for the posting of personnel, in accordance with the establishment attached as Appendix "A".

Equipment

AMS in collaboration with AMAE and AMAS (D of S), is to arrange for the provision and supply of equipment, in accordance with the establishment attached as Appendix "A" and appropriate scales for this type of Unit.

The Air Officer Commanding, Western Air Command, is responsible for instituting the procedure set out in Equipment Administration Order No Q 37/3, regarding "inabilities" for equipment required by No 2 RDF Maintenance Unit.

AMS is to issue separate instructions regarding special accounting procedure for RDF equipment.

ADMINISTRATION

Accommodation

As it is urgent that this Unit commence to function immediately, the Air Officer Commanding, Western Air Command, is to arrange for temporary accommodation within existing buildings already provided for No 3 Repair Depot and, at the same time, is to submit to AFHQ such additional building requirements as may be necessary for this Unit.

Accounting

No 3 Repair Depot, Vancouver, is to be the accounting Unit for No 2 RDF Maintenance Unit, except that the latter is to be self-accounting for all secret RDF equipment.

Publications

AMS is to arrange for the initial issue of non-secret publications, forms and stationery, in accordance with the approved scales for this type of Unit.

Auxiliary Services

The Commanding Officer, No 3 Repair Depot, is to be responsible for providing the auxiliary services required by this Unit, and the personnel and equipment establishments for No 3 Repair Depot is being amended accordingly.

Security

It is vital that the security of the equipment handled by this Unit be safeguarded at all times, and the attention of all concerned is drawn to the appropriate Orders and instructions in this regard which are promulgated from time to time.
