2 Radar and Communications Unit (Auxiliary), RCAF

1 September 1951 to 31 July 1952

Number 2 R&CU, a unit operating under number 15 Technical Training Wing, Toronto, Ontario, was formed on 1 Sep 1951 for the prime purpose of training auxiliary telecommunications personnel; officers and airmen.

F/O JA McCallum Tech Tel was appointed officer commanding 1 Sept 51. Pending appointment of a Commanding Officer, the semi annual historical record for 1 Jan 52 was not submitted.

The auxiliary establishment code number is 639R 2 R&CU dated 1 Sep 51.

9 Mar 52

A group one examination was given this date to 8 Radio Operators (Morse) under training service 1 Jul 54. 4 airmen were successful.

26 Mar 52

W/C EH Mann was appointed Commanding Officer 2 R&CU effective 26 Mar 52.

6 May 52

F/L AI Cove was appointed chief instructor effective 6 May 52.

18 May 52

Group one examinations were held this date with the following results:

14 out of 18 communications performance checkers (ground) passed; 9 out of 18 Radar performance checkers (ground) passed; three out of four Radio Operators (Morse) passed. these airmen had all been under training since 1 Jul 51.

21 Jul 52

The 1952 summer high school training program got underway with 150 students under training by 2 R&CU staff. Trades being taught include: Radio Operators (RTDF); communications performance checkers (ground & air); Radar performance checkers (ground) and Fighter Control Operators. 19 auxiliary officers and airmen are assisting this program along with 12 regular force officers and airmen.
