51 AIRCRAFT CONTROL AND WARNING SQUADRON
COMOX BC

INFORMATION

  1. The development of the Air Defence System of Canada requires the activation of numbers of radar stations across Canada. In accordance with the Programme of Activities it is planned to activate 51 Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron, Comox, BC.
  2. INTENTION

  3. To form 51 Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron.
  4. EXECUTION

    Effective Date

  5. The provisions of this OrgO are to become effective 1 Nov 54.
  6. Role

  7. The role of this Squadron is to provide control facilities for fighter squadrons of ADC, as directed by the Sector Commander, 5 ADCC, Vancouver, BC. In the performance of this role 51 AC&W Squadron is to:
  1. Collect, evaluate, and display information on the air situation within its area of responsibility for use by military agencies and civil defence authorities.
  2. Provide early warning services within the area of surveillance of its radar.

Command

  1. The officer appointed to Command 51 AC&W Squadron is to be the Commanding Officer of this unit as defined in QR(Air) art 1.02 (xxi) (a) (iii).

Control

(6) – Control of this Unit is to be exercised by the AOC ADC through the Group Commander 12 ADGp except that operational control is exercised through the Sector Commander 5 ADCC. (For higher levels of operational control see Secret OrgO 1021/53).

ADMINISTRATIVE ARRANGEMENTS

Establishment

  1. Establishment code 121 FA 292 is to become effective 1 Nov 54.
  2. Personnel

  3. The transfer or posting of personnel is to be arranged by AFHQ and ADCHQ.
  4. Accounting

  5. Pay and materiel accounting is to be arranged by the AOC ADC and these services are to be provided by the CO RCAF Station Comox.
  6. Expenditures are to be charged to Vote 600.
  7. For purposes of QR(Air) art 205.35 and AFAO F5.30 this Unit is not designated as a flying unit.
  8. Supply

  9. The provision of materiel is to be arranged by the AOC AMC and the AOC ADC and this materiel is to be issued by the CO RCAF Station Comox in accordance with CAP 16 Vol. 1.
  10. Accommodation and Messing

  11. Accommodation and messing are to be arranged by the AOC ADC.
  12. Medical, Dental, and Chaplaincy

  13. Medical, dental and Chaplaincy services are to be arranged by the AOC ADC.
