Auxiliary weekend training was carried out with the following squadrons:

Courses - Cross Training - Ground Training

Two officers attended Controllers Proficiency Course, one officer, one NCO, and two airmen received cross-training with the adjacent American Squadrons; eleven officers attended High Altitude Indoctrination Course; one officer attended ADC Rocket Meet at Cold Lake. The 2-week formal trade advancement courses for airmen were held at this Unit 50 GCI, 12 3 ADCC & 9 GObC personnel attended these courses.

SAC Overflys - A total of 97 Overflys took place during this period with intercept action occurring against the majority of these Overflys. File S55-03-05.

Caveman Series - Carried out to test the feasibility of the employment of preplanned tactical action against a column attack along route C1 & B3 of the Orb study: Caveman C1 - 27 Aug 57; Caveman B3 - 1 Oct 57. File S55-03-06.

Exercise Cross Talk. This exercise was planned to provide practice in Broadcast Control Procedures, and to determine the extent of coverage, at altitude of the CBC Transmitters located in Hornby, Ontario. The results indicated a definite need for additional practice and established the fact that the CBC coverage provided was more than adequate for anticipated requirements. File: S55-00-16. The equipment was shut down completely in order to move all indicators and auxiliary equipment from the fourth floor to the second floor. This was the first major project done entirely by RCAF personnel. It was completed in one week except for cutting cables to length and general cleaning up.

Mr. Saracino of Penn East Engineering installed a prototype installation of an ECM simulator. The evaluation team, made up of representatives from AFHQ and ADCHQ, was headed by W/C Long. The trials proved most successful.

His eminence James Cardinal McGuigan visited RCAF Station Edgar. Mass was celebrated at 1600 hours.

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal HL Campbell, CBE, CD and party visited RCAF Station Edgar.

Four additional VHF transmitters and receivers installed. Total capability is now 22 A/G/A channels. Thirteen additional UHF transmitters and receivers installed. Total capability is now 19 A/G/A channels.

With the installation of the FPS-6, the TPS-501 height finder in the east tower has become surplus to requirements. The entire equipment was dismantled, inspected and crated for shipment.
