The following is a chronological summary of Unit activities at CFS Foymount for the period 01 Jan 73 to 31 Dec 73:

January 73

Base Defence Force Course – 13 personnel. Course 7301 – FYQ-47 started. Exercise Fabric Keynote 73-3 22 NR Special Test – live – Operations.

February 73

Foymount annual Winter Carnival was held during the week commencing 10 Feb – 16 Feb 73. Exercise Fabric Indian 73-2 22 NR SSTM level 1,2,3 – Operations. Foymount receives 2,000,000 accident free miles record award 06 Feb 73. Base Defence Force Course – 27 personnel. Exercise Fabric Brave 73-2 22 NR live – Battle Staff, Operations. Five personnel from SAGE Support Unit North Bay for familiarization visit.

March 73

Exercise Wintex, NORAD/NATO – Battle Staff, BDF and Operations. Base Defence Force – 12 personnel. Exercise Amalgam Fairplay 73-3 Multi-region SSTM – Battle Staff, Operations. Night School Grade 12 math course ended – 7 graduates. DDC course held with 28 personnel attending.

April 73

Course 7301-FYQ-47 graduated 11 students. Exercise Power Scope in conjunction with 2RCR #2 Combat Group, CFB Petawawa. Col Holtby and Cap Fong-Jean conducted the Annual Commander’s visit to CFS Foymount. Engineering visit by NDHQ-DEEM and ADCHQ-SOSM to research UPX-14 Power Supply Project. Course 7302 – GPA-124 started. Volunteer Firefighter course – 7 personnel.

May 73

Ceremonial Mess Dinner held to commemorate 2,000,000 accident free miles record for CFS Foymount held 24 May with MGen Magnusson as guest of honour. Exercise Snowtime 73-6 Battle Staff, BDF, Operations. Visit from NDHQ, ADCHQ and CFS Shelbourne personnel to study the amalgamation of 171 (AD Tech) and 271 (Radar Plotter) trades. Exercise Springtime Tumbleweed, local – BDF, Battle Staff NBCW.

June 73

NDHQ – DEEM visit for further investigation of UPX-14 Power supply Project. 92 Service personnel attended the Parade & Drill Standards Training 11 – 15 Jun and 18 – 22 Jun 73. Volunteer Firefighters course – 9 personnel. French Language Training graduates 10 students Level I, 3 students Level II. Armed Forces Day celebration at CFS Foymount included an Officer’s Mess Garden Party for local dignitaries and station tours for local Service Clubs and similar organizations.

July 73

Course 7303 – GPA-124 graduates 10 students. Captain Lay from NDHQ-DEEM doe FYQ-47 System briefing. AN/FST-2B removed and stored.

August 73

Exercise Fabric Brave 74-1 22 NR – live – Operations. One day Firefighting course – 37 personnel. Projectionist course (16mm) 10 personnel.

September 73

French language training started. Mr Yvon Boucher teacher – 18 students. Course 7304 – FYQ-47 started. Search and Rescue Exercise – 6 personnel. Federal Hunt 74-1 20 NR Multi-region SSTM – Battle Staff, BDF and Operations. OSMET visit from NDHQ for a familiarization tour and establishment briefing on a typical radar site. Course FYQ-47 Supervisors Course – 14 personnel. One day firefighters course – 29 personnel.

October 73

Defensive Driving course – 18 personnel. One day Firefighter course – 17 personnel. Night School Grade 12 math started – 8 students. CFS Foymount closure 01 Sep 74 announced 10 Oct 73.

November 73

Remembrance Day Parade held in Eganville, Ontario with Branch 353 Royal Canadian Legion and 3rd Battalion RCR Pipes and Drums. Exercise Amalgam Fairplay 74-1 NORAD and multi-region SSTM Battle Staff and Operations. Energy Conservation study conducted on the unit. Familiarization visit to 655 Radar Squadron Watertown AFS New York. Four personnel attended.

December 73

Course 7304 FYQ-47 graduated 11 students. ADCHQ-DCOSC&E and CFS Foymount Ground Environment meeting as to equipment removal and use after 1 Apr 74.

Attached as Annex A is a list of all Officers and number of WOs, NCOs and men on strength at CFS Foymount as at 31 Dec 73.
