Today marked the beginning of Exercise Crackerjack.

5 Dec 55

Exercise Crackerjack. Alert sounded at 1700 hours to commence the air attack by the USAF on Canadian defences. The all clear sounded at 0600 hours, 6 Dec 55. F/O A Jamieson from NE Company, Belleville, paid a liaison visit to the Station.

6 Dec 55

A Leathercraft display, sponsored by the Canadian Leathercraft Association from Toronto, was held in the Community Centre.

16 Dec 55

The Administration Section held their annual Christmas party in the Community Centre.

17 Dec 55

The Christmas Station Dance was held in the Rec. Hall, attended by all ranks. Music was provided by the TCHQ dance band.

25 Dec 55

Officers and Senior NCOs served dinner in the Airmen’s Mess.

31 Dec 55

Dance held in Officer’s Mess, attended by dignitaries from Eganville and district.

1 Jan 56

Dinner served by Officers and NCO’s in Airmen’s Mess.

21 Jan 56

Sleigh ride held for airmen and wives, followed by bean supper in Mess.

Alerts sounded each evening to commence exercises.

S/L S Evans, AFHQ, paid visit to station to discuss problem pertaining to airwomen.

30 Jan 56

Mr. R Simpson, Mr. R Krikorian and Mr. MacDonald of Defence Production, visited the unit to discuss forthcoming building projects.

213036 F/O CJ Bygraves and 214552 F/O HI Chase reported on TD from Station Senneterre as support AS/Ftr Controllers.

7 Feb 56

26155 S/L DC Bullock went on TD to Station Gander where he is transferred as CO of the Station.

17 Feb 56

The annual St. Valentine’s Dance, sponsored by the Comm and CE Sections was held in the Rec. Hall. Music provided by the Mickey Hammond Dance Orchestra from Pembroke. 122319 F/O HIG Bryan left on TD to Selfridge AFB for advanced FtrC course.

19 Feb 56

25739 S/L JJ Murchison, ADCHQ Legal Advisor paid a visit to the unit.

29 Feb 56

W/C Woolfenden and F/O UC Carpenter visited GObC Unit at Carleton Place for presentation of GObC wings to personnel.

St. Patrick’s Dance, sponsored by Admin. Section, was held in Rec. Hall.

LAC DL O’Reilly, (Accounts Section), was killed in an automobile accident near Eganville.

3 Apr 56

9843 S/L CR Hodgins, 6536 S/L AR Jobson from AFHQ and 19717 S/L WJ David from ADCHQ paid liaison visit to Supply Section.

Training Command Band from Trenton put on an excellent concert in the Rec. Hall for service personnel and families in the afternoon, followed by a Dance in the evening, at which the Hockey Trophy was presented by the CO to FS AS Foster, Captain of the Station Team, for winning the Bonnechere Valley Championship.

14 Apr 56

931 W/C J Woolfenden departed for ADCHQ to attend CO’s Conference. 30170 S/L EG Baxter assumed command during the CO’s absence.

15 Apr 56

21034 FS RF Brown SupTechSupr 3, promoted to the rank of Flying Officer in Supply Branch. W/C J Woolfenden and S/L RW Wright, COpsO, visited the Army camp at Picton, to discuss rocket firing procedures.

20 Apr 56

Ground broken for the erection of the Administration building. 47453W F/O I Butler reported in to replace F/O DG Harnett.

23 Apr 56

Workmen commenced pulling down heavy equipment shack in preparation for the erection of the new Fire Hall.

25 Apr 56

3041 S/L WS Willis, ADCHQ, paid a visit to the Station.

27 Apr 56

A Spring Frolic Formal Ball, sponsored by the Hospital and Radar Sections, was held in the Rec. Hall. Music by Mickey Hammond’s Orchestra from Pembroke.

30182 S/L JR Austin and 13703 F/O PJ Sheasley of 1 R&CS Clinton reported in on TD to check field training of FtrCops.

2 May 56

Air Vice Marshal Wray, AOC of ADCHQ paid a visit to the unit. He was escorted by AFP on motorcycle to tarmac between CE Section and Supply Section where he inspected the Guard of Honour, comprised of 48 airmen and 18 airwomen. This was followed by a briefing in the Conference Room by OC of Sections. After lunch in Officer’s Mess, AVM Wray toured the Operations Building and various sections. At the completion of the tour, the AOC spoke to the airmen gathered in their club and then briefed the Officers in the TV room. A cocktail party followed the briefing and AVM Wray departed at 1730 hours.

14869 F/L GL Davis, AS/FtrC departed on TD to Yuma for advanced Controller course.

Captain J Duesling and travelling dental team reported in on a months TD for dental treatment of unit personnel.

16 May 56

20201 S/L JD Shaw of ADCHQ and 19771 S/L C Torontow of AFHQ visited the unit to discuss personnel problems. Major Haydar Tunckant, Assistant Air Attache for Turkey, was special guest at Mess Dinner.

19 May 56

Stage Show from St. Hubert presented a very fine show in the Rec. Hall.

23 May 56

F/O AM Proud and F/L OH Hack visited the unit to discuss ground training problems.

24 to 26 May 56

40837 F/O E Anthony proceeded on TD to Uplands regarding the crash of CF100 at Orleans. F/O Anthony was controlling the aircraft prior to the crash and was the last person to have contact with the pilot.

28 May 56

20064W S/L L McKergow, Command Messing Officer, discussed Messing problems pertaining to this unit with our new Messing Officer.
