    COMMENTARY

    Reconstruction of the south latrine was completed during the month of November with the installation of a new cabinet heater. The construction crew returned to Pepperrell Air Base, Newfoundland.

    Reconstruction of the Airmen’s Lounge is now 70% complete. Materials are now on hand for completion of the project utilizing assigned personnel for manpower requirements.

    Re-tiling of the Squadron hallways, dining hall, Officer’s Lounge, and theater was completed during this reporting period and 28 new seats were installed in the theater.

    The Base Exchange was relocated with new shelves and showcases installed in the customer area and new shelves installed in the storage area. The new locations affords additional display and storage space and provides more efficient customer service facilities.

    A new commercial-type clothes washer was drier was installed in the south latrine area for use of squadron personnel.

    An academic training program was initiated in operations to supplement present On-the-Job training. The new academic program includes instruction in the organization of the Air Defense System, communications, meteorology, geographical positioning, electronic countermeasures, operator maintenance, and combat operations. Visual aids and lesson plans have been published and distributed to operations personnel. Three lessons and an examination were completed during the month of December.

    The 15-J-1C Target Simulator is now in operation with four targets and has been re-integrated into the operations training program. The remaining two targets are inoperative due to a lack of parts but are expected to be in operation within 30 days.

    The 51 pair cable from Detachment #10, 1876th Radio Relay "Pole Vault" was relocated at its entry point to the squadron due to excessive icing caused by condensation from a vent outlet.

    All supply paperwork from "SUNEC 59" (annual requisition) was completed during the reporting period and forwarded to the support base.

    The squadron experienced the first combined snowfall and high winds during the past quarter. No difficulty was encountered in keeping roads and fire lanes clear.
